Polyurethane Implants are Silicone Gel Implants

And they are called Furry Brazilian implants or Brazilian Breast Implants.

Yes, they are cohesive silicone gel breast implants. That is right- they are usually made from much the same cohesive silicone gel that smooth implants are textured implants are made from (note- each implant manufacturer uses a fancy adjective to describe their silicone).

The difference is the the “shell”. Yep, you guessed it- Polyurethane implants have a shell made from Polyurethane. And that is the difference between the Polyurethane implants, smooth implants and textured implants- the shell.

If you want to dork out, here are all the fun details listed by one manufacturer of polyurethane foam covered silicone gel breast implants:

It is made of a chemically and mechanically resistant silicone elastomer envelope that is thin, soft and polyurethane foam coated. It contains a defined volume of high performance, transparent, highly resilient, Biodesign silicone gel whose shape, density and overall consistency have been developed to resemble the corresponding human tissue.

  • Envelope: A compound of Polydimethylsiloxane and Dimethyl Fluor Silicone Copolymer, catalyzed by a platinum complex, is used as basic elastomer.
  • Envelope coating: Polyurethane foam adhered to the envelope by a vulcanization process.
  • Filling product: Silicone gel catalyzed by a platinum complex.
Note- I do not work for any breast implant company and do not receive any compensation from any breast implant company.
